Quickly we are reaching the doldrums of summer, which means it's time for a Penguins-style blog comeback.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs ended in glorious fashion and the NBA Playoffs are sure to end soon (maybe tonight). That means it will soon be time for sports media everywhere to start focusing on our national pastime, football.
I'm going to jump the gun here.
After ten years, 108 wins and a shocking result in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, one would think Boise State football could design some decent uniforms.
That's not the case, again.
If you have the misfortunes of staring at the "Smurf Turf" this year, you'll also have to endure these hideous uni's (right). The piping is plain nasty.
It seems that Boise State thrives off ugliness. The Broncos boast the nation's best home-field record over the last ten years (64-2).
Maybe like the arctic fox who cunningly matches it's surroundings, these Broncos blend ugly uniforms into screaming blue turf, giving them a camouflaged advantage.
Though it could be they play soft non-conference schedule and then fest off WAC schools. Whatever the case, you'll soon be hearing about their BCS-busting possibilities again.
As for the Broncos quest for national respect, maybe they should start with a uniform overhaul.

I'm going to hop on my favorite hobby horse and talk a bit about schedule strength. I think you nailed it with BSU. They play nobody - absolutely nobody - until they coast in well oiled for a bowl game (which lately they have been losing - thanks TCU and ECU). I'll remind fans, however, that since 2004 the only bowl game they've won is on a Pop Warner play in 2006. Great game, but perhaps the only great game in school history...
Speaking of bowls, in 2004 they lost to Louisville, in 2005 they lost to Boston College, in 2007 they lost to ECU and last year TCU beat them in the postseason. Not exactly what you hear about from the media, is it? Over the course of that stretch they have played 7 real schools, of which they won 4. Not bad, but two came against Oregon St. in the first game of the season and they lost to Washington and were reminded of their WAC-iness in a humiliating defeat "between the hedges" at Georgia in 2005.
I think what makes this so relevant (and frankly not all that surprising) is that they play in the WAC. Fresno St. and Hawaii flirt with decency every once in a while, but aside from that there's not much to speak of in terms of talent in that league. So, their stunning home record says one thing: they are better than the 8 other horrible teams in their division.
So you can't help being in a crappy division, right? Well actually, yes you can. Play the Georgia's of the world. However, rather than pursue that strategy BSU has chosen instead to schedule I-AA teams like Sacramento State, Portland State, and Idaho State - you know, to get a break from all the tough games awaiting them in conference play...
I guess I'm lazy, but who did Boise lose to in the past 10 years? I bet one loss came against Hawaii...speaking of which, has there been any Colt Brennan news from the NFL?
He's the third QB for the Redskins, so I got to see him play a bit last year in the preseason. He is a bit of a fan favorite for doing so well in the preseason last year. I think he has a legitimate shot at being an NFL QB. The challenge for him will be remaining patient while the Redskins' other QBs choke (Jason Campbell and Todd Collins). If he's as good this preseason as he was last year and the Redskins have a poor season, he might just get a chance to play a bit sometime during the upcoming season.
I think you have to go back to a 2001 loss at home to Washington St. for the home winning streak record. They host Oregon in week 1 this year, so the streak will die soon.
Also, please write something about Tim "The Toolbag" Tebow soon. That's another of my preseason rants that must happen at some point.
